| MARCH NEWS Fundación Ayuda Niños La Paz, A.C. is preparing for school year 2009-2010. Funds collected by the end of April will determine how many students we can support with the purchase of uniforms, gym clothes, shoes, tennis shoes, backpack and school supplies, and by covering public transportation costs to and from school. Barb Conley, Joan Grooms, Phyllis Patton, Cathy Winn, Elia Redfield, Margaret Brindle and Carmelita Dodge from the American/Canadian boating/landlubber community are teaching English to the 5th and 6th graders at the grade school Gustavo Diaz Ordaz in Colonia Marquez de Leon, where FANLAP has worked the last 13 years. Barb and her crew would like to see all the 6th graders who qualify for our scholarship program to be included. To accomplish this goal the following events are being held this month to benefit the Children of La Paz: March 20: at Restaurant La Costa (Encinas y Topete), music by The Barking Dogs to help send the 6th graders to school. 100 % of the ticket sales will benefit the FANLAP middle school students. March 22: a booth at the Festival de Arte at Marina Palmira where art items and home baked goods will be sold; 100 % of the profits to go to the students. March 22: Guitar and Violin concert at Teatro Juarez; 15% of ticket sales will benefit FANLAP’s scholarship program. Tickets will be sold at Club Cruceros on Tuesday and Thursday at the coffee hour. March 26: a paella dinner/Flamenco show at Galeria Pax, Guillermo Prieto between 5 de Mayo and Constitucion, Tickets are 200 pesos and 50% of the ticket sales will benefit the scholarship program. Tickets will be sold at Club Cruceros Tuesday and Thursday at the coffee hour. The “matching funds” drive up to $4000, headed up by Judy on Cactus has reached its goal, but you are still welcome to make a donation. Please visit our website at www.lapazninos.org or Club Cruceros website at www.clubcruceros.org to see how to make an online donation through International Community Foundation in San Diego. Or bring your cash donation to Mary’s attention at Marina de La Paz or to Vicki at Club Cruceros’ clubhouse at the same marina. Thank you to all who have helped us send these deserving kids to school. TOGETHER WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE Judy Peterson, President Fundacion Ayuda Niños La Paz, A.C. |
Subasta 2008
On behalf of the Children of La Paz, we
would like to thank everyone who helped to make Subasta 2008 a
success. This year over 90,000 pesos was netted, and checks for over
2000 USD were sent to International Community Foundation on behalf of
the Children of La Paz. Subasta
2008 Photos Here! This year the funds will be used for our scholarship fund to send children to school past the sixth grade. Fundación Ayuda Niños La Paz, A.C., was founded so we could have a legal entity to help children of impoverished families continue their education. In 2000 two students were sponsored by Club Cruceros de La Paz, and three were sponsored by the foundation. This program has grown until, for school year 2008 2009, we purchased school supplies, uniforms, school shoes and paid transportation costs for over 200 students to junior and senior school and higher education.
If you would like to make a donation to help a child continue his/her education, the instructions are online. If you are in La Paz, please see Vicki in the clubhouse or Mary at Marina de La Paz. We thank you for whatever you are able to give. Judith A. Peterson, president Mary G. Shroyer, vice-president Tax deductible donations may be made payable to International Community Foundation, 11300 Sorrento Valley Road, Suite 115, San Diego, California, 92121. Subasta 2006 at Marina de La PazFundación
Ayuda
Niños La Paz, A.C., (FANLAP) would like to thank all those
who
participated this year in Subasta; all your work made the event a true
success. We’d like to inform you where the Subasta
pesos
are expected to go this year. On the 14th of December, 2006 we deposited 117,000 pesos into the FANLAP bank account; more will be forthcoming once the bookkeeping is completed. In addition donations were made to International Community Foundation in San Diego to benefit the Children of La Paz. These funds will be used mainly for the lunch program in Colonia Laguna Azul. In this lunchroom 130-150 children are served a hot lunch 5 days a week during the school year. We receive donations of rice, beans, oil, other staples, from DIF (the family development part of the government) and from Fundación Best, A.C. We purchase fruit, vegetables, meat, chicken, eggs – whatever necessary to make a balanced meal. The work of food preparation, serving the children, and cleanup is done by some of the women of the community. The cost to FANLAP is approximately 10,000 pesos a month for the groceries purchased at CCC at a discounted price. In the past Subasta moneys have been used for medications for children of low-income families, as well as scholarships for junior and senior high school. We expect to do the same this year. FANLAP is waiting for the lunchroom property to be deeded to the foundation. Once this happens, we will continue our plans for a library-study center on the property. 2007 promises to be a year full of progress for the less fortunate children on the outskirts of La Paz. We are grateful for the hard work of members of Club Cruceros who have helped to make our vision come true. FUNDACIÓN AYUDA NIÑOS DE LA PAZ, A.C. Judith A. Peterson, President |
