Muy buenos días from Fundación Ayuda Niños La Paz, A.C. (FANLAP).  We’d like to inform you of some of our progress since our last message.

First of all, we have revised our website; please check it out at www.lapazninos.org.  Click “news”, and you’ll be able to read our latest newsletter which came out in the spring of this year.

As we mentioned in that newsletter, our dream of constructing a library/study center as a second floor in the present building located in Colonia Laguna Azul will soon be realized.  We are more than $30,000 US short of our estimate of 61,000.  We have solicited a donation of materials from the State Government and, once we receive their reply and hopeful delivery of some or all of those materials, we shall get started.  Permits are presently being secured for the construction.

For school year 2008/2009 we have scholarship applications from approximately 200 students who will qualify to receive a backpack, school supplies, uniform, gym clothes, school shoes and tennis shoes at the beginning of the year, at an estimated cost of 300 USD per student.  Approximately 100 of these students will also receive money to pay for public transportation to and from school, which amounts to an addition 100 USD a year (for those who take one bus each way) or 200 USD (for those two take two buses each way).  Some of the students also have a tuition cost of 100 to 300 a year.

In addition to these students, we plan to again help SAMM (a government agency dedicated to prevent abuse to women and children) and SEP (secretary of public education), helping HIV positive parents who no longer can work send their children to school.  In some cases the children are also HIV positive.  We plan to help sixty of these children attend junior and senior high school.

Our lunch program, child psychology workshops and other programs continue as usual.

Our funds come from people like you.  Please help our children complete their education and improve their lives and that of their families.  A 25 dollar donation will pay bus fare for two months, or a backpack or a pair of school shoes.

            You may donate online at:

http://donate.icf-xchange.org/donate.php/losninosdelapaz or send a 501 C 3 tax deductible check to International Community Foundation at their new offices at 2505 N Avenue, National City, Ca. 91950.

To donate with a check drawn on a Mexican bank, or to deposit directly to a FANLAP account, please refer to our website and click “contact us”.

Thank you for whatever you are able to give.

These meals are served in the facilities of the Church San Jose Obrero (breakfasts) and in the  Centro Comunitario de Laguna Azul (lunches), with the ladies of the Colonias doing the work of kitchen and cleaning. In addition scholarships, including scholastic uniforms, shoes and equipment are provided, along with transportation for these children in the  Colonias.  More photos here

Subasta 2006 at Marina de La Paz

Fundación Ayuda Niños La Paz, A.C., (FANLAP) would like to thank all those who participated this year in Subasta; all your work made the event a true success.  We’d like to inform you where the Subasta pesos are expected to go this year.
On the 14th of December, 2006 we deposited 117,000 pesos into the FANLAP bank account; more will be forthcoming once the bookkeeping is completed.  In addition donations were made to International Community Foundation in San Diego to benefit the Children of La Paz.
These funds will be used mainly for the lunch program in Colonia Laguna Azul.  In this lunchroom 130-150 children are served a hot lunch 5 days a week during the school year.  We receive donations of rice, beans, oil, other staples, from DIF (the family development part of the government) and from Fundación Best, A.C.  We purchase fruit, vegetables, meat, chicken, eggs – whatever necessary to make a balanced meal.  The work of food preparation, serving the children, and cleanup is done by some of the women of the community.  The cost to FANLAP is approximately 10,000 pesos a month for the groceries purchased at CCC at a discounted price.
In the past Subasta moneys have been used for medications for children of low-income families, as well as scholarships for junior and senior high school.  We expect to do the same this year.
FANLAP is waiting for the lunchroom property to be deeded to the foundation.  Once this happens, we will continue our plans for a library-study center on the property.
2007 promises to be a year full of progress for the less fortunate children on the outskirts of La Paz.  We are grateful for the hard work of members of Club Cruceros who have helped to make our vision come true.

Tax deductible donations may be made payable to International Community Foundation, 11300 Sorrento Valley Road, Suite 115, San Diego, California, 92121. Please put "Children of La Paz" on the lower left-hand corner of your check.  Or make an on-line donation at
http://donate.icf-xchange.org/donate.php/losninosdelapaz.
Also checks drawn on a Mexican bank, in pesos or in U.S. dollars, may be made payable to Fundación Ayuda Niños La Paz A.C. and sent to us at Calle Santiago #320, Col. Bella Vista, 23050 La Paz, B.C.S., Mexico.
